The management of the project will ensure that all the activities are executed correctly and timely, having a smooth transfer of results between them in order to avoid delays or deviations from the schedule.

  • WP0000 – Management: The project foresees two different management activities to be performed during the whole duration of the project: provide the overall project management and technical coordination of the project and provide the management of the Advisory Board, to coordinate the interactions with such stakeholders.
    • WP0100 – Project Management: aims at providing the overall management and technical coordination of the project, ensuring that Quality procedures are correctly applied during the execution of the project activities and carrying out all configuration management tasks within the project.
    • WP0200 – Advisory Board: will undertake the set-up and management of the Advisory board, the organization of meetings with Advisory Board, and the reporting of the meetings held with the Advisory Board.
  • WP1000 – Review of on-going and past EGNSS projects: The objective of this WP is to capitalize results from previous or ongoing EGNSS projects which can facilitate the penetration of EGNOS and Galileo in the UAS market, bot for the Open and Specific categories.
    • WP1100 – Results for EGNSS service implementation: will be devoted to the examination of the results of past and on-going EGNSS projects which could be of interest for U-Space to capitalize on the outcomes of different studies which have been funded by the public sector. Additionally, it will understand whether the results achieved could be re-used for the implementation of an EGNSS service.
    • WP1200 – Mapping of EGNSS services and drone applications: based on the identified projects in WP1100, it will undertake a literature research in order to map one-to-one correspondence of EGNSS services (navigation, surveillance, tracking, geo-fencing, e-identification) to deliver specific performance to drones in the Open and Specific categories.
  • WP2000 – UAS Operational Experience: the main goal of WP2000 is to capture UTM service provider, pilots and operator needs in relatively complex operations to understand their needs and improve the user experience of EGNSS services in real operations.
    • WP2100 – EGNSS needs survey: this section aims to execute a survey to support the identification of UAS operational needs linked to EGNSS.
    • WP2200 – UAS operational assessment of EGNSS use: will compile operational lessons about the operational use of EGNSS (e.g. current access to EGNSS information and integration with user’s workflow; needs to improved access to EGNSS information during all phases of flight) with a focus on relatively complex scenarios (including drones of Specific category).
    • WP2300 – EGNSS service operational requirements: will assess EGNSS requirements from UAS operational needs identified in WP2200.
  • WP3000 – Gap Analysis: will compare the elements from EGNSS systems and U-Space to identify the gaps for the acceptance of EGNSS as an additional service in U-Space. Apart from the gaps identification, the activity will also consider the proposed implementation plan for the introduction of an EGNSS service for U-Space, understood as the high level analysis of the programmatic key points in the EGNSS programmes U-Space service evolutions and standardisation/regulation milestones.
    • WP3100 – EGNSS services: will analyse the gaps that need to be filled to accelerate and facilitate the adoption of the seamless use of EGNSS in U-Space, but just focusing on the EGNSS system evolutions.
    • WP3200 – U-Space services: will perform gap analysis between the elements already implemented in EGNSS Programmes and the needs for a fast acceptance as an additional service in U-Space, considering: open and specific categories and the evolution of U-Space services (U1 to U4) and architecture. Additionally, it will propose an implementation plan for the introduction of an EGNSS service for UAS.
    • WP3300 – Standardization/Regulation framework: will identify gaps for the adoption of EGNSS in UAS (U-Space) in terms of the standardization and regulation (current status and expected evolutions). Furthermore, it will propose the corresponding implementation plan for the introduction of an EGNSS service for UAS.
  • WP4000 – Impact Analysis in EGNSS Service Provision Layer: the objective of this WP is to take into account the gaps for the EGNSS implementation identified in WP3000 and to identify how they may impact the service provision layer, together with the definition of the corresponding implementation plan that may need to be done to mitigate the risks for the Specific category.
    • WP4100 – EGNSS systems and user analysis: based on the outcomes from WP3000 (gap analysis), will analyse the impact of introducing EGNSS in U-Space in terms of EGNSS systems and users and will propose a series of modifications which are linked to the EGNSS systems and user interfaces.
    • WP4200 – EGNSS service provision layer: based on the outcomes from WP3000 (gap analysis), will analyse the impact of introducing EGNSS in U-Space in terms of service provision. This sub-WP will identify only the required changes at EGNSS service provision layer side, WP4100 will identify the changes required at user and system level considering EGNSS and U-Space perspectives.
    • WP4300 – Standardization/Regulation framework impact analysis: will identify the modifications required in the standardisation/regulation for EGNSS and U-Space elements to be consumers of the proposed modifications in WP4100 and WP4200.
  • WP5000 – Development of EGNSS API: define and implement an API for EGNSS which could be called upon UTM service providers, UAS designers or UAS system developers, and integrated in existing commercial solutions.
    • WP5100 – Definition and development of EGNSS API: will develop the EGNSS API, i.e. the specification, requirements definition, design, coding and verification of the software application that implements that API.
    • WP5200 – Inputs to standardisation and regulation: will validate the operational use of the developed EGNSS API.
  • WP6000 – Proof of Concept: the objective of WP6000 is to demonstrate the added value for drone operations of the measures implemented at service provision level and the new EGNSS API developed in WP5000. Among the benefits to be analysed are the ability to mitigate the risks of the operation and whether the proposed measures facilitate mission preparation, in-flight services and authorisation processes by the operator.
    • WP6100 – Proof of concept experimentation: will prepare and execute a flight trial as proof of concept to analyse and assess the performances of the proposed EGNSS service for U-Space by integrating the developed EGNSS API and demonstrate the added value of the service provision elements identified during the project.
    • WP6200 – EGNSS Performance analysis: will analyse the data collected during the test flight from WP6100 to highlight the added value of EGNSS solutions with regard to GPS-only (and whenever possible, with regard to other sensors available on-board such as barometer, radio or laser altimeter, etc.).
    • WP6300 – Risk and security analysis: will conduct a risk analysis following the SORA methodology (or EASA standard scenario if it exists) of the mission defined for the proof of concept experimentation. Assess how the new elements in the service provision layer developed under this project help to mitigate the risks or can simplify the authorisation process with the Member State Authority. Analyse the positive impact on safety achieved thanks to security features implemented in Galileo.
    • WP6400 – Cost benefit analysis: will describe which CBAs and the methodology to be performed for the CBAs. Link with the first iteration to be done as a first iteration of the project.
  • WP7000 – Awareness and Contribution to Standardization/regulation: will promote the results of the project and eventually, accelerate the use of EGNSS in U-Space.
    • WP7100 – Awareness and Dissemination: will disseminate the progress and project outcomes within U-Space community.
    • WP7200 – Inputs to standardisation and regulation: will generate inputs relevant for the regulation/standardization currently under development, taking into account the results achieved along the project.
